Data collected on students at our reading center who have received Sound Start Literacy instruction:

Number of Students (ages 6-11): 24
Average hours of instruction: 17
Average Standard Score Increase in Word Reading: 11.8
Average Standard Score Increase in Phonic Decoding:
15.3
Assessments used: TOWRE 2 and Woodcock Reading Mastery Test

We will continue revising these numbers as more students finish their intervention.

Two Year Comparison Pre vs. Post Sound Start Implementation:

  • Significantly below Benchmark data went from 12.5% to 5%

  • The percentage of students at or above benchmark went from 77.5% to 84% 

  • The percentage of students above benchmark went from 47.5% to 69%
